What Fun!
Quixii8 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I liked this episode a lot. It's very Lindsey focused. You know, I really wanted to hate Lindsey. After he went back to Wolfram and Heart and deservedly lost his hand by bringing back Darla, he did so many things wrong I just wanted to hate him. But somehow, I always had a soft spot for him. He always seems so passionate, like despite his best efforts, he's always going to follow his heart. And yeah, sometimes his heart leads him to do evil, terrible things. But I think there's someone good deep down in there.

This episode also really reminded me of what Lindsey lost when Angel took his hand. It's never seemed that big a deal before, but now we learn he used to love to sing and play guitar, and he didn't get to do that anymore. He had to adapt and stumble through this harsh, competitive life, without his dominant hand. I think able-bodied people like me need that reminder sometimes. But it also makes it more beautiful when he does get to play and sing again. It's like he's finally connected back to his soul, and it's nice to see.

I like seeing Lindsey try to work with Angel. This is the second episode when that's happened, and it's just so much fun both times.

This episode also deals with the toll the visions are taking on Cordy. This worries me. None of the guys know how to deal with it. Cordy doesn't really know how to deal with it. I'm not sure what kind of path this will send her on. Poor Cordy.

There are two parts of this episode that I particularly like. The first is when Angel is trying so hard to cheer up Cordelia, he brings her a bunch of food. She tells him she loves him, and he just has this most wonderful smile that nearly made me tear up. It's really perfect - it's just full of his soul, so happy and worried and sweet and adorable. It's a quick but really beautiful moment.

But what really takes the cake and makes this a fun, wonderful episode, is when Lindsey quits Wolfram and Heart. He goes on this whole "evil hand" speech, and I love it. It's so funny and so Lindsey and just a really enjoyable scene.

Gross!

Warning: Spoilers
DEAD END

The Good; Well if you like gross horror concepts this one's for you! A very nice end to the Lindsey story arc (for now) and some good humour about corporations and how they work. Very clever scene where we see around Lindsey's apartment with all the little features showing his life with 1 hand.

The Bad; When Lindsey shoots up the boardroom where the heck are WR+H's crack security team who always seem to turn up on every other occasion?

Best line: Lindsey "Stop it evil hand!"

Jeez, how did they get away with that? Eye stabbing anyone? Or living organ donors? Plus Angel garroting the parole officer.

Apocalypses: 5

Angel Clichés Damsel in distress; 18

Kinky dinky: Of course this being LA even the organ donors are insanely pretty. Lindsey pinches Lilah on the way out, well you would, wouldn't you?

Captain Subtext; Angel seems to yearn for the parole officers 'butterfat'? (Yuck!)

Know the face, different character; 2

Parking garages; 5,

Buffy characters on Angel; 16 Wetherby, Collins and Smith. Angel, Cordy, Oz, Spike, Buffy, Wes, Faith, Darla, Dru, Master, Anne, Harmony, Willow

Questions and observations; Once again Wes and Angel subtly compete for leadership. Love Wes delegating Angel to help Cordy. Lilah suffers a death of the thousand cuts, constantly humiliated by Lindsey, treated as a secretary by Lindsey's client. No offence to Christian Kane but I really don't think he's that good as a singer. Kate is sorely missed by AI who now have to pay an outside contractor. Poor Cordy, the visions really starting to take their toll. Interestingly Angel warns Lindsey to never come back and Lindsey warns Angel never to play WR&H's game. NEITHER listens to each other's advice.

Marks out of 10; 8/10 great stuff and the last we'll see off Lindsey for 3 whole seasons

Wolfram & Hart Give Lindsey a Hand
Samuel-Shovel21 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In "Dead End", Lindsey gets a new hand thanks to a unique operation (involving a Pockla demon) that Wolfram & Hart set up for him. Unfortunatrly for Lindsey the new hand appears to be evil. Meanwhile, Cordelia gets a vision of a man stabbing himself in the eye. It becomes clear, thanks to the karaoke bar, that the two storylines are related; Angel & Lindsey are forced to work together to try to figure out what is up with these body parts and where are they coming from?

In the beginning of the episode, Lindsey looking sadly at his guitar before he gets his new hand is one of the most unintentionally funny things I think I've seen in a while. That had me in stitches.

This episode was okay. The main takeaway is obviously Lindsey quitting from the law firm. Is this permanent? What's his end game? It reminded me of when Oz drove off into the sunset. I wouldn't be surprised to see him come back though.

Lindsey gets an evil hand
katierose29524 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great episode that establishes some really important stuff for the rest of the series. (1) Cordy's visions are beginning to take a toll on her health. (2) Lindsey's leaving town, so Lila's now in charge of the Special Projects division of Wolfram and Hart. (3) Wolfram and Hart can reattach limbs. (That'll come back into play in season five.) All in all, "Dead End" is a fun, interesting episode with a lot of small moments that just rock. You shouldn't skip if you're watching the series on DVD.

This episode revolves around Lindsey. Since losing his hand last year in "To Shanshu in LA," he's been wearing a prosthetic. Now, Wolfram and Hart have bumped him to the top of their mystical transplant list. They have a procedure that will graft a new hand onto him via magic. Lindsey is thrilled with his new appendage. He can play the guitar again and tie his ties and shave. But there's one small problem... He thinks that the hand is "evil." It's writing "kill" on documents and not following his instructions. Lindsey begins to investigate the hand's origins.

Meanwhile, Cordy has a vision of a man putting a butcher knife through his eyes. She's becoming debilitated by the headaches and horrible images in that afflict her. Wes, Gunn and Angel are concerned, but Cordy insists that it's all part of the job. When they investigate the guy with the knife in his eyes, they realize that Wolfram and Hart is involved. The guy received an eye transplant from the same doctor who gave Lindsey his new hand. Lindsey and Angel wind up working together. They discover that Wolfram and Hart is abducting people and using their limbs and organs as "parts." Lindsey's hand was writing "kill" because its original owner is still alive in a storage tank and desperately wants to die so his suffering will end. Angel and Lindsey shut down the body part operation. Lindsey quits Wolfram and Hart and leaves town. Lila is made Wolfram and Hart's director of special projects.

There's a lot to like about this episode. I always smile when I see that family photo on Nathan's desk. His "wife" is this 20-something model, while he and his son are in these horrible, matching glasses. And I just love Angel hiring a detective to do his detective work for him. It's such a ridiculous idea that I just have to laugh. And I like Lindsey singing at Karitos. Seeing his guitar sitting in the closet was really sad and I'm happy that he could finally play it again. But, Angel's annoyance and jealousy over Lindsey's performance is just hilarious. Lorne, Gunn, Cordy and Wes are praising Lindsey and Angel just rolls his eyes, "Is everyone here drunk?" (On a side note, Lindsey's song in this episode will be sung by Eve in season five's "Hole in the World.") Anyway, it's neat to see Lindsey and Angel try and work together as "Dead End" goes on. They're bickering over who gets to beat up the witness and generally driving each other crazy. And the "Cops Suck" banner Angel hangs on the back on Lindsey's truck is just so childish and fun. Lindsey and Spike are the two "people" who really bring out Angel's hidden 12 year old. Finally, I really enjoy the scene where Lindsey quits his job. His "I've got an evil hand" rant is just great, from shooting guns, to pinching Lila, to rubbing his co-workers heads, "Charlie!" I just love it.

On the down side, I really like Lindsey so I'm sad that he'll be gone for a while. Also, did he have to kill that guy who's hand he received? Couldn't they have tried to help him, somehow? Also, I really don't get why Wolfram and Hart tried to promote Lindsey over Lila. He's betrayed Wolfram and Hart again and again. Lila's always pretty loyal to the company. She's a much better choice for the head of special projects.

My favorite part of the episode: Angel bringing Cordy everything on the take-out menu, because he couldn't remember what she likes to eat. Cordy is touched. She looks at the food, looks up at Angel and says, "I love you." Angel gives her slowest, sweetest smile and I just completely fall in love with him myself. For an immortal, vampire, bad ass... He's simply adorable.

Emotions
limetalhead26 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
What I love about this episode is that just like in the episode Blind Date we see Lindsey's human and emotional side show itself. Unlike the first episode however, Lindsey doesn't choose Wolfram & Hart in the end. With him literally having a connection to the spare part clinic patients because of his new hand Lindsey realized that enough was enough. It helped to show that even the most vile people have issues that eat away at them and make them realize that some things are just taken too far. The funniest part was when at the W&H board meeting when he did the whole 'evil hand' routine. Shooting the security guard in the foot, scaring the crap out of Lilah and saying he's bored with this crap was great. Grabbing her ass on the way out was kinda cool too. While having Lindsey leave the show until season 5 was somewhat of a creative disappointment, the way they had him leave was very well done and heartfelt.

What amazed me the most was when Lindsey was singing at Caritas. I always wondered if it was really him until I read Christian Kane's bio. Finding out that he is the guitar player and singer for his own band kinda knocked me for a loop. As a former musician, I have a lot of respect for his talent.

Angel? He's up, he's down. He's good, he's bad. He's a barrel of dead monkeys
SleepTight6664 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Angel? He's up, he's down. He's good, he's bad. He's a barrel of dead monkeys - My favorite non-Darla episode of season 2. The reasons why I love the episode is that it the develops the characters and it also manages to be quite intense and dark. 'Lindsey's rivalry with 'Lilah' is always fun, the firm obviously prefers him and decide to give him a new hand, but the hand starts acting all crazy and keeps writing the word KILL. Eventually he and 'Angel' team up (Which is hilarious, they act like school-children) and destroy all the transplants. It's too bad 'Lindsey' left LA, but at least it gave space for 'Lilah' to grow and his exit was perfect - COPS SUCK!. The episode also developed the 'Cordy' storyline, her visions get more vivid and are starting to take their toll. Fantastic episode, I love Christian Kane's singing. LINDSEY: If you're here to kill me, grab ya a ticket and get in line. ANGEL: Oh, I really like this truck. '56, right? First year they had that wrap-around windshield. You know, back in the fifties we all thought life was gonna be like in the Jetsons by now. Air cars, robots. I'd love to have an air car. Wouldn't that be cool? LINDSEY: So, you're here to talk me to death? ANGEL: Nah, I just came here to say, things don't always work out like you think. I bet Wolfram and Hart aren't too happy losing one of their best and their brightest. LINDSEY: Yeah, well, let 'em come try to stop me. It'll be fun. (10 out of 10)

Angel: What is that? Rock, country, ballad? Pick a style, pal.
bombersflyup30 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Dead End is about a vision Cordy has, linked to Lindsey's new hand and its evil impulses.

Not an incredibly important episode or many highlights. Kane's singing ain't bad. Lindsey leaves Wolfram and Hart and town. No big deal, as Lilah's more ruthless and threatening anyway. Cordy's visions are beginning to take a toll and everyone's worried. This guy in the vision is killing himself because the involuntary donor wants to die. This isn't Wolfram and Hart's intention, just something that went wrong. It's not really an evil hand, seems sloppy.
