This episode was meant to showcase an up and coming singing sensation meant for stardom, Jerry Lanning. While Lanning as a beautiful voice in the show, he never turned into the teen singing sensation folks wished he'd been. But because the show was meant primarily to showcase his talents, the rest of the cast take a definite backseat and the overall style of the episode is not at all like "The Dick Van Dyke Show". As a result, the series regulars apparently hated the episode.
Sally is insanely positive about some new singing sensation she's discovered at a bowling alley, Randy Twizzle. She insists Rob, Buddy and Mel listen to him sing a catchy ditty...and soon he's signed to appear on "The Alan Brady Show". However, after talking with his agent, Randy wants to back out...but not for the reasons anyone anticipated.
Lanning is a nice looking teen with a great voice. But if that isn't what you are looking for, you're likely to be disappointed. Overall, not a terrible show but one so atypical I can see why many were not impressed.
