Supersnout

Oh No It's Selwyn Froggitt. Haskins is on holiday so Bill Maynard plays DCI Quirk.

Quirk is after a Post Office gang and has a snout feeding valuable information of a big job in a jewellery store.

Regan also has a major snout Joey Stickley who plays the inside man in jobs. Regan thinks that his snout might be two timing him.

The episode starts off gritty with The Sweeney taking down a gang.

The jewellery store job ends up being farcical. It would had been foreshadowed as Maynard was known at the time more for his comedy work.

There was a saucy striptease scene. Actor George Silver who plays Yannos had a memorable turn in the movie Gumshoe.

One Of The Lesser Episodes
Theo Robertson7 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
From the outset THE SWEENEY had two very distinctive type of episodes . Gritty hard hitting violent episodes and off beat humorous ones . Supersnout is firmly set in the camp of off beat humorous episode and unfortunately this sets it up as being one of the lesser episodes

The episode starts with DI Jack Regan's two passions in life - alcohol and a woman - being interrupted by a phone call from one of his snouts who tell him there's a blag being carried out the next morning and the snout wants to make sure that Regan will let him escape during the robbery and that he will be getting a percentage of the reward money

The problem with the episode is that after the blag is carried out in the pre title sequence neither the director Tom Clegg and writer Ranald Graham have developed the episode enough . You can imagine the production crew having a good laugh as Bill Manyard's chief inspector's plan to catch some jewel thieves suddenly start disintegrating in to farce . Unfortunately the tone should have been set much earlier with George Carter's vain undercover work as a taxi driver being played up more for laughs

Great guest star

Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad episode but could have been better. The striptease set-piece is unusually sleazy for an otherwise family friendly show like this. Great to have Bill Maynard along as guest star and he's given an interesting role too.

It's a strange one

Where is Haskins?

Carter with a 'tache racially abusing the Japanese A farcical model of the potential crime scene.

A sleazy snout who appears to know international jewel thieves and yet takes backhanders from Regan for information in outside toilets.

Not the best episode.
