Not bad
crusadersrg23 April 2009
Not a series to be taken seriously, as you can probably tell from the title. But if you like sci-fi/fantasy type movies and comedies, then this is definitely for you. The strong point of this show is the wide array of ridiculous characters. I enjoy Dongalor (the villain) the most as a character... but there are plenty of memorable ones. The General, Horse Rapist, the weapons inspector, the Innkeeper..etc. The humor is a little on the cheesy side...but it's endearing. This show sold me after the first episode and I ordered the season off itunes. I would definitely give this my recommendation for anyone that enjoys movies such as Zoolander, Dodgeball and their ilk.

For an overall score, I gave is show 8/10

Better than most
Beeryus1 May 2009
Krod Mandoon is not great comedy, but at least it's better than 90% of the garbage that claims to be funny on American TV these days, and it's a whole lot better than most of the overrated British stuff too. I mean let's face facts - Little Britain was a load of garbage. I wish the Python team were still doing comedy, but until another truly genius team comes along, Krod Mandoon does make me chuckle a bit, which is more than can be said for the rest of the so-called 'comedies' out there. Sure, it's not Python, it's not Blackadder, and it's not even on the level of Absolutely Fabulous, but at least it's not just another Friends or Seinfeld clone.

Silly but watchable
Zulu4225 April 2009
Granted this show is not to the taste of the pseudo-intellectual elite who find it boorish but it still has it's moments and it's funny if you take it at face value (again, Shakespeare it ain't but it makes no claim to that title either). Sean Maguire is ably cast as the main character, on a quest with his flaming sword (which fires up when he seems to least expect it) and his merry band of misfits. There's the sexy pagan chick, the sorcerer who sucks at magic, and the big lummox of an ogre guy who is enslaved to Mandoon for whatever reason. The standout character, however, is Lord Dongalor, perfectly played by an "over the top" Matt Lucas of "Little Britain" fame. At half an hour, the show isn't too long and it's a bit of a welcome respite from some of the other weird junk Comedy Central has in it's line-up. It's not a bad show at all and it seems to be getting better and better now that the characters are being fleshed out a bit more with each new episode. Different but worth a look.

Really Enjoyed This Silly Show
ai-goodandy26 April 2009
I didn't expect the show to be entertaining, I expected a another serious show like The Legend of the Seeker that was nothing like the book. Surprisingly, it was pretty funny. It's not the more smart kind of funny show, but more like Austin Powers, Robin Hood Men in Tights, and other silly movies like that. The real difference here is that the story gets a little wacky and really has a lot of surprises.

I like how the characters are pretty unique. The main hero is probably the smartest one who isn't very good with running his crew and he's having girl problems because his girl is sleeping with everyone. The wizard is black and really doesn't have any magic. He just lies about it. And another guy (who looks like a brute) is pretty much a wuss and sucks at shooting a crossbow (which he shoots a lot....and hits the hero). The main bad guy is pretty funny too. He's similar to Dr. Evil from Austin Powers, only with an accent and he really seems to have power over his legion.

I have heard some bad comments on this show after I watched the pilot and I was wondering how they can say those things with we see repeated movies like Epic Movie, Date Movie, and other stupid crap go to the movie theaters every few months. Krod Mandoon is funnier only because their jokes are a little more thought out and they aren't totally wacky. Like a man being able to spin so much that he plows through the floor, that would be Dance Flick, but not Krod Mandoon.

My favorite thing about the show is it really reminds me of The Legend of the Seeker. The acting isn't top notched, but when it's supposed to be some small silly show, that's all you need. I think people are expecting this to be a Michael Bay show or something. Anyways, I enjoyed it.

Krod Mandoon is Hilarious!
benji-7125 April 2009
The commercials didn't make me laugh but they did catch my interest. I had Tivo grab the first episode. I wasn't expecting much, but I soon found myself laughing out loud - a LOT. Krod Mandoon has quickly become one of my favorite shows. It's a campy medieval comedy packed with great characters. From what I've seen in reviews, people either love it or hate it. I think some people don't get that it's meant to be campy. It's not going to have a tight plot with brilliant acting - it's supposed to be a low-budget romp. Some of the moments of humor are totally unique, too - things I've never seen before, and they surprise me so much I have to hit pause so I can ROFL. Dongalor, the bad guy, is particularly funny. And somehow they managed to give everybody the worst hair I've ever seen. It's stunning. Anyways, I love this show.

Some of the best TV I've seen in years
andriante3 June 2009
I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the show. It's just genuinely good! The acting is superb. The writing is fluent, very funny and the story line is good as well although heavily focused on being funny rather then focusing on the plot.

The show looks pretty expensive, the set looks very authentic and rich.

I think that if the show where to be improved to perfection then it should be made 40 minutes long and put a bit more focus onto the storyline.

Other than that it's perfect. A must see for anyone who likes shows like Futurama, South Park, 30 rock etc.

enjoyable, but will not last
temelianov23 April 2009
It is an interesting series with a lighthearted take on medieval action adventures. There are interesting characters and funny jokes, but it isn't as well done as it could be. The story is a rehash of your basic peasant knight saves the kingdom type deal, and the actors don't give it 100%. The characters aren't very original, except for Anika, but she is far from a saving grace. I would liken it to Eragon with sex jokes and slightly better writing. I am sad that this series wasn't given more thought as it seems it could have been like the BBC series Robin Hood. Hopefully the writers pull it together and Comedy centrals audience doesn't give up on it very easily.

Love it
Nick-231430 April 2009
One of the only shows I actually don't want to miss. As for the IQ comment's I have a IQ over 130 and my Father has one over 140 and we both love this show. It has witty innuendos, smart humor and references. I especially love how they make fun of them selves and the genre it's self.

Like the underpowered wizard who constantly tries to prove his abilities by lying or how Krod is a freedom fighter yet he has a slave to name a few.

I just love every thing about this show. So bring me a tub of goose fat and a clean sock because I'm sticking to the tube with flaming sword in hand for this one.

Tiresome and forced
RogerBorg29 June 2009
Each 60 minute episode manages to fit about 10 minutes of writing into what feels like a 4 hour marathon. Every so often, it raises a chuckle, but there's far too high a dross-to-gold ratio to make the effort worthwhile.

The cast are largely unappealing, with the obvious exception of the banging hot India de Beaufort - it's just a shame that she can't act, and doesn't have a character to play even if she could.

None of the cast are much cop, although Sean McGuire does at least put some gusto into it, and Matt Lucas and Roger Allam at least bother to phone in their usual competent performance. The rest of the supporting actors are uniformly awful, turning in performances that would shame an understudy in a village panto.

The highlight - and this is faint praise - are the sets, which are a step above the usual BBC shaky-plasterboard. The cinematography is decent too, and the score isn't too out of place. Unfortunately, the sound mix is dreadful, with the dialogue far too muted and the effects too jarring.

It's not totally unwatchable, but the problem the BBC have is that they're competing with hundreds of channels now, and it's much easier to condemn or ignore Krod than to recommend it. Doubtless they'll label it "cult" and hope to claw their money back in DVD sales, but they've blown too much of our license money on the budget and produced too little substance in return to earn the requisite credibility or goodwill. Krod's destiny lies in the bargain bin.

A very funny show
jimmyk_zom1 May 2009
I enjoyed watching this show, and no my IQ is not under 90 (which is considered an average persons IQ :) ) There are many gags that are new as fantasy/comedy has not been done as well before this. The very fact that the show is so tongue in cheek makes it funny. Plus the characters and their defects and hang-ups add a lot of humor to the situations they find/place themselves into.

If you enjoy fantasy movies/novels LOTR, Terry Brooks Sword of Truth series and show "legend of the seeker". I would definitely recommend this just for the lampooning of fantasy monsters and characters that are on the show! Yes it is sophomoric humor, but that is why the show is on Comedy Central.

Blunt sword of destiny
Prismark1026 October 2014
Ricky Gervais seems to do well by bringing UK and USA television broadcasters together to back his latest comedy project and make it work.

Krod Mandoon follows a similar path, it even has a rising American comedy actor, Kevin Hart in an otherwise mainly British cast but his mix of Mel Brooks, meets Monty Python does not really take off.

The series is sword and fantasy comedy as reluctant hero Krod Mandoon (Sean Maguire) a freedom fighter lacking in prowess and confidence takes on the the evil ruler, Chancellor Dongalor (Matt Lucas) with his band of inept freedom fighters. The highlight is the sultry India de Beaufort who uses sex as a weapon.

Somehow the series is not that funny or clever, the slapstick is not that inspiring or surreal. If you looking for something in the vein of The Princess bride this is not it.

Very funny
njmac35723 April 2009
Now I am not always a fan of silly and lewd humor. Never been a big fan of South Park or The Simpsons, but I LOVE Little Britain and The Whitest Kids You Know. Its all in the the writing for me as to whether I find it clever and funny. This show is hilarious. It is a very adult kind of humor, but I love how witty and outrageous it is. I hope this program is given a fair chance. I love the interaction of the main characters. You do feel as if they have known each other for a long time and that there is quite a back story to be revealed eventually. This is a comedy where you root for the good guys and the bad guys because everyone is so entertaining. I say if you like well written, goofy, outrageous and fairly naughty comedies...then this show is for you.

Surprisingly amusing
bbbl678 July 2009
I started watching this show and immediately got hooked. Yes, the humour is a bit crude for Brits, and women. The jokes are often about sexual shortcomings and alternate lifestyles. Brits usually like to take subtle shots at politicians or celebrities -- that'll never work in America. However, they did take a shot at George W. Bush in the third episode parodying his infamously flubbed "Fool me once, shame on you" speech.

The character of Zezelryck, the incompetent sorcerer, reminded me of Chris Tucker's character in the movie The Fifth Element. It was a screechy Prince or Michael Jackson impersonation.

Bruce, the gay boytoy character, is a bit too over-the-top. Too obviously gay. I liked the character they had in the 4th episode, the Bi-Clops. He was a bit more subtle, and therefore funnier.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a funny spin off of mythical and legendary characters. Yes the dialog can be brash at times but none-the-less you must remember it is on Comedy Central a channel with a plethora of smart mouthed comedians and programming. However, I think the dialog is true to character. And I like the gender switch between the hero and heroine it is a clever and funny way of letting guys know they can be mushy in their journals and women can be strong willed (without being called certain names). I enjoy the show very much. It's a nice break from reality and a good show to veg. out with. I do wish the program lasted an hour to make more time for character and plot development and I'd like to see more of Cy the biclops and look forward to a DVD release.

Excellent cast, writing, production and acting.
gbestwick14 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
There are a few reviews which state the obvious about this show: Shakespeare it ain't! This is a wonderful blend of the adventure of Xena, and the comedy writings of Robin Hood: Men in tights.

The show follows a questionably talented band of people who assist the prophesied Krod Mandoon on a quest to stop Dungalor from using the Eye of Gulga Gyrmna.

For the type of show the characters are well developed, albeit bordering on stereotyped, and even though there were only 6 episodes they still managed to evolve over time. The sets and locations were fantastic. The costuming was absolutely stunning. The actors and actresses were fantastic.

One of the things that I really enjoyed about this was that the characters weren't 1 dimensional. I can honestly say that I know people like every major character.

It is clear that this is a show that requires a season to get the audience hooked, and then could be a long running classic.

To the BBC: Get the funding and get this going again. You'll kick yourself in 20 years if this becomes another cult classic like Faulty Towers and you only produced 6 episodes.

Awful, humourless programme
mud-2612 June 2009
I rate this programme a two out of ten for the three moments it managed to make me laugh, the hero hitting his head on a post, the name of the Emperor (Emperor Zainus) and a character called Horst Draper. These things didn't manage to make me laugh much, mind you.

This is just really, really bad. It's like the writers decided to pick all the worst elements of comedy, particularly American comedy, and put them in one programme. There are annoying anachronisms (the baddie suggesting people send out for 'coffee and muffins' - this alone is jarring as it is said by someone British, that it is said by a supposedly mediaeval leader makes it much more so), there are ridiculous, over-laboured stereotypes (the black sorcerer, the gay one, the slutty woman), poor slap-stick and gratuitous, unfunny sexual references which just don't fit with the 'lighthearted' feel. Compare this to the BBC's excellent radio comedy 'Elvenquest' and Krod Mandoon's complete and epic failure is obvious.

I was worried about this programme from the moment I read in an interview that the American television network insisted on the lead character having an American accent. Not to worry, I thought, so long as it is good that probably won't annoy me too much. It is not good, it is worse than I thought it could be - not the worst comedy the BBC has shown in a while (Coming of Age springs to mind), but a ridiculously poor effort, especially considering the huge budget.

I suppose this was to be expected, the title of the show alone is inane. 'Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire'. Well, things that are flaming tend to be on fire.

Monty Python/Mel Brooks Wannabe
olivemonkey16 May 2009
This show is absolutely HORRIBLE. It seemed to me that they were trying to follow suit of comedic geniuses such as the Monty Python team and Mel Brooks but it really fell flat. The acting was sub par and the comedic timing was totally off. Krod Mandoon's character seems out of place in the spoof they are trying to create and the "evil villain" seemed like a terrible Ricky Gervais but completely overacted. I am pretty easily entertained and this couldn't even get me to crack a smile. I'm not sure if any of it was really salvageable. The ONLY funny character in the whole movie is Bruce, the gay lover of one of the characters. Other than that this show is a complete waste of an hour.

Lost potential
MadWatch15 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Krod Mandoon started out as an interesting premise, mainly a fantasy sword and sorcery sitcom. However it just becomes a platform for more anti-male/pro-female bullcrap that is considered "humor" in our society. In between scenes of fantasy style questing, scenes of medieval castles/towns and characters like warriors and wizards, are the messages that "women are awesome and sexy" and "men are idiots and buffoons" while pointing out that female sexuality is awesome and sexy and male sexuality is disgusting and ugly.

I would have rated the show higher, but could not stand the misandric garbage. I had enough by the 4th episode.

Next!

Krud
ctomvelu-118 April 2009
Watching 10 minutes of this goofy sword and sorcery TV series told me everything I needed to know about it, especially when one of the characters talked in rather graphic terms about masturbating. It told me the show is not watchable by females or any males with an IQ over 90. Fortunately for the show's makers, there are plenty of sub-90 IQ males out there who will probably appreciate this swill. Besides the nasty dialog's, the portion I watched had some very unfunny people trying to be funny as Krod fought it out with some villain. The villain gets the upper hand until Krod's sword bursts into flame. You can guess the rest. This is a show to definitely stay away from.

Entertaining but lightweight
robert-8592324 April 2018
Entertaining but ultimately lightweight.

All rather off the wall kind of humour which is a bit hit and miss. At times it all seems rather ad-lib. If you're into Dungeons and Dragons you'll probably appreciate it.

It has a star studded cast which doesn't really redeem the rather turgid plot or lame attempts at humour. The characterisation is all very 2D and no one really shines. Plenty of eye candy whichever way you spread your bread.

All that said it's not especially offensive (there is a little gratuitous sexual humour which might upset the more sensitive snowflakes among us), and the story line romps along with plenty of sword swinging action.

It's lightweight humour for a quiet evening in.

You don't solve a problem by throwing money at it
zh8414 June 2011
Much as I detest Mrs Thatcher (Prime Minister of Britain 1979-90, for the young and the foreign), her maxim applies here. It was obvious throughout this series, of which I saw all but the first and last episodes, that money had been poured into it. There was lots of location work, the sets were big and elaborate, the costumes were beautiful, there was a large cast, people had been trained to fight, there were lots of special effects, and so on. The trouble was, though, that the ideas weren't there beneath it all. The characters were dull (a magician who can't actually use magic is a completely pointless idea) and the story didn't make much sense to me. It was fun to watch Matt Lucas having the time of his life overacting the villain, but I lost patience with the story as a whole and that is why I never watched part 6. As others have said, India de Beaufort is gloriously beautiful, but that isn't enough to keep my interest.
