This episode was pretty good. I hope this thing with Doug Stanton is done now. I liked it better when Jackson was the gay character not the BLM agenda guy.

The Bombs and the Spanking
claudio_carvalho2 November 2021
After passing the disciplinary exam, Nolan is assigned by Sgt. Grey to work at the front desk. He leaves his position to help to capture a woman freegan and stumbles upon a van parked in a forbidden area of the station. However, the van has several bombs and Nolan is held hostage by an armed man and handcuffed near the bombs. The man that has terminal cancer activates a dead man's switch and requests that a dangerous prisoner is released; otherwise, he will blow-up the police station. Meanwhile, Stanton delivers a blue page to West's file since he left the evidence unprotected. Grey advises West that he will replace his T. O., but he requests to continue with Stanton and has a serious problem in a dangerous black community.
"Lockdown" is an episode of "The Rookie" with two engaging storylines. Nolan and the guy with the bombs has a poor motive causing frustration in the end. The segment of West and Stanton is excellent. My vote is eight.

WOW! Amazing writing!

Wow the writers nailed this one! The entire story and sub plots are edge of your seat suspense. This episode could've been a full length feature Hollywood blockbuster! Not sure why there are so many haters and wannabe critics against this show. Clearly someone didn't make the cut for this show lol. A SOLID well deserving and honest 10/10 (click my username for my 1000+ reviews to see I'm a real reviewer) Y'all will see why I've rated this so high once you've seen it and the tears start flowing! The writers have a lot of work ahead of them to top this writing!
Two points for Titus Makin and Brandon Routh in this episode

Warning: Spoilers
These two officers in a moral race war with one another definitely hits high point. I am glad for this episode to be had. The writers did a great job and certainly inspired people on what being a human being is all about, civilian or government official. I am sure it was a tough one to write and equally tough one to act out but Makin and Routh did a great job making each of their scenes count.
Great Episode

This episode had so many "Oh" moments!! Kept me on the edge of my seat! I've LOVED this whole season. I appreciate how they are telling the stories of the challenges and heart of police officers. I love how they show both the good and bad police. It's so important. Thank you ABC, producers, writers, directors, cast and crew for being brave to address these issues fairly and openly. You've gotten some flak for it. I want you to know I appreciate this show!
STOP RATING JUST TO BE IGNORANT

Why are people rating low because they don't believe in being "woke"?

This was seriously an amazing episode. Probably my favorite so far. It was SO well done. Small minded people who don't want to face the injustices of America in the media are rating it low because they live in a fairy tale world. Definitely worth the watch, highly recommend.
Best episode of the series

I can see what they were trying to do this season but not quite executing. The result was some dialogue and scenarios that just weren't consistent with the characters.
However this was a shining example of what it looks like done right. Same message, much better execution.
Great performances, a true tug of war morality tale at the heart of it. Hopefully this is the writers adjusting to the new paradigm. I am optimistic for the future of this show.

Much better than the previous episodes, but writing quality has dropped

Warning: Spoilers
I was gonna go on a massive lengthy tirade of how badly the writing has gotten, but instead I'll give an example on how the "evil white cop" was caught. It's been explained at length that the body cam is always recording. Every Training Officer drills this into every rookie. Then for no reason at all, the experienced older officer decides to completely ignore that fact and do something so incredibly out of character by ignoring that fact, when he is previously shown to be intelligent and conniving, planning a failure for the black rookie by baiting erratic and emotional behavior. Then for no reason at all, he falls for the kind of idiotic bait only a mentally stunted individual would fall for in full view of his body cam.
This show has never been anything special. It's always been a fun mix of comedy and drama that never took itself seriously, but this last season has so clearly been one gigantic jerk off session for the writers and director to show how much of an "ally" they are for the black community. This team of all white writers pretending they know anything about the black community in their million dollar condos in walled off communities surrounded by other white people. And because of it, the writing quality has dropped immensely. Maybe this is the kind of thing they expect from the people who like this tripe, because you'd have to be mentally challenged to enjoy this in comparison to season 1 and 2.

Very good episode!

Funny thing, I almost wanted to ask & write a review - how can Doug be standing up, while Jackson gets beaten, when his body cam can reveal that he seen him, but did nothing to help his partner? I already wrote it, and then thankfully I decided to watch it until the end before publishing it.
And I would say, it is very belivable that he would not think about it & forget. I criticize show before, but this is a very good episode!
Plus, I remember & like Josh Stewart from Criminal Minds, it was a nice surprise to see him here.

A brilliant conclusion to a subplot

I can see how the first few episodes of this season could feel a bit over-the-top. I am glad they wrapped up that particular thread in this episode. It allowed them to address a contemporary issue in this season without it becoming the theme of the whole season.
The acting was excellent, as usual.

Hard to Watch, but so Important
SourCandyOrNoCandy26 April 2022
As a Black person, the last few episodes since the introduction of Stanton have been really difficult to watch. I actually contemplated stopping watching for a little while because seeing what minorities in America go through everyday is really upsetting, but this episode was great. I really, really liked it.
Best parts of the episode?
Worst part of the episode?
Best parts of the episode?
- I love the whole police-officer-held-hostage trope, so Nolan's storyline was really interesting.
- Jackson clicking Stanton's bodycam back on?? Whewwww. That scene gave me chills. I know that doesn't mean that all is fixed, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.
- I've been loving pregnant Lopez. It seems like they changed her personality very slightly, but I'm here for it. Anytime she pops up, it's such a treat.
- It used to feel like Nolan, Harper, Chen and Bradford were the main characters and Jackson and Lopez were supporting ones, so I like that Chen, Bradford and Jackson are working together as opposed to the usual four.
Worst part of the episode?
- I really, really don't like when they change the title sequence.

Nonsense
skywill-9074517 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sadly, this became some woke garbage for the half of it's time.
Creators probably wanted to be in touch with occuring events, but lost their touch with reality in process. Characters actions dont have real motives and some even act out of their character, like West.
So strong beliefs about the cops in him and one *snap* and he goes full war on "bad" cop Doug? Unbelievable. And obvious plot hole - who West managed to do that trick with Doug's camera? Doug was always suspicious, aware, he's always on alert and very smart. And he just... let it happen? Meh.
And for Doug himself. Form being just a hardie, maybe also being extra suspicious to certain groups (which was also explainable as he had some history with gangs, saw a lot and knows a lot), they made really "bad" cop, criminal actually just to force the story with him and West to make sense. They should have end it there where they just explain his past and west was forced to change mentor hitting hard reality how everything is not that simple. That would kept both West and Doug characters a least believable.
BLM ruined many shows.
Very sad.
Okey, I'll give up

WOKE?
jimspencer728 February 2021
Sadly, Nathan Fallon's series as the rookie has begun the move toward social justice taking the audience away from what the show is about. I watched it because I enjoy police procedure shows. I understand there are sensitive social issues out there but I don't need Hollywood to educate me as the arbiter of truth. I would hope this role of Stanton by Brandon Routh doesn't kill his career. I think Americans everywhere have seen and heard enough this past year to want to move forward with life. I'm done with Hollywood make-believe!
Nathan Fillion was the draw

Spoilt (again) by annoying loud music drowning out dialog
gvlawrence17 April 2021
Whose bright idea is it to have loud crappy music drown out the dialog during key parts of the story?? Either play the music when dialog is NOT occuring, or provide a courtesy warning at the start of the episode recommending the use of subtitles for those viewers who actually want to know what the characters are saying...
The Jackson character should be written off
