Still like the show but....
asterblasterth31 December 2021
....I get the sense there isn't put much effort into it like at the beginning or the same budget. If this show was all about the war between Belters, Inners and Martians then it would've been perfectly fine especially how this is going to end. But the thing is this show once started of with mystery, a detective story and a war. Now it's all about the war between the Belters and Inners. What happened to the rings? I feel there was so much more story to tell and still kept the war storyline going. Now we just see a little girl now and again and her little alien friend.

Also the special effects and sets aren't up to par with the beginning of this show. Again it isn't up to the standard like it was in season 1, 2 and 3. Still enjoying the show just a bit disappointed.

Another solid great but nothing special episode
namob-436731 January 2022
This show keep delivering very high grade entertainment, solid excitement and marvellous acting. But, this final season has yet to score top marks and the continuous reason for this are the two points below:

1) The Marco Filip gang are not as well acted and does not feel like the menacing pirates and murderers they should be. Nor can you understand and feel for them. One of the great things with the Expanse is that you can see all viewpoints, and even if you do not agree with some action taken you can understand them even if they are evil, or made by Holden... Marco and Co have none of that. I even at times fastforward Marco and Co talking. So pointless and boring.

2) There is now only 2 episodes left and although this little current story might end, there is a bigger one growing. They would not show that pointless girl with her pointless dinosaur creature and those alien warships etc otherwise right? I know there is a continuation in the books, but apparently we are not getting it here so how are they going to summerise and do the story justice in just 2 more episodes? They can't. And that bugs me - especially because I also feel like it impacts the last season since it feel rushed and not as stable in writing as previous seasons.

The Expanse is still the best SciFy show of all time, but they need to stick the landing otherwise the show is unlikely to remain numero uno.

boring scattershot and confused, or maybe the writers got lost
mrdcarroll3 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First the Pro's about this episode Drummer and her crewmates are kick ass even the kid they wanted to kick off the ship for lack of ability to fight had a bad-ass scene as she became the medic willing to make the hard call.

Unlike the fiasco of last season, we are moving forward and have some solid scenes.

Now the Con's Do we have 2 teams of writers for Phillip and the Secretary General?

In one scene she seems the intelligent leader with a plan to deal with the new realities and the changes in power dynamics, in the next she seems like a dinosaur/rapid dog clinging to the last vestiges of power. Same for Phillip, he's been built up to oppose his father and not wanting to be as cold/maniacal and wanting to actually build something, then in the next scene after someone successfully opposes his father he turns into a rabid cult follower, a fanatic even. From scene to scene these two keep running in opposite directions from their actions in the previous scene. It seems like the writers merged multiple characters into each one and are trying to use the dialogue and action each source character used but using just a single character.

Considering that there are just 2 episodes left and there has not been any hint that the show will be picked-up on another network, it seems odd that they are introducing so many new plot/storylines. Mars leaving the inner planet alliance, the missing ships, the settlers on the new planet, the strange dino-dog creature that bears a striking resemblance to the machine Miller animated back in season 3(?) fighting the gate builders or destroyer of the gate builders, the rebellion in the belt of Marco loyalists and general belter loyalists, there may even be more belter factions.

If Holden hadn't come down with a case of the stupids, they could have at least ended the current war and delved into a return to the past with the Inners fighting to control/police the belt, with the various belter factions fighting the apartheid system that is/was the old belt governing system, then setting up some plan to follow-up with those that fled through the ring gates, maybe to set-up some de-militarized zone, or new power balance between the ring planets vs the core system planets.

I don't see how they can wrap this up with a pretty bow, that is not a typical Hollywood feel good ending where the good guys win and everything wraps up neatly in the last few minutes.

Why is the protomolecule ring still in the credits?
big_brother_198431 December 2021
The first seasons were about the protomolecule and humanity's expansion in the solar system. There was an abundance of real SciFi storylines, world building and character development.

With the last two seasons, even with a extra-solar new star system discovered the universe has been shrunk to soap opera size. Why care about the protomolecule ring and alien civilizations if you can have family drama?

The only explanation I have is that it's an exercise to appeal to a new viewer group, while barely keeping everyone else streaming with some cgi and battles. And the writers probably realized that they are unable to cram the book stories into the last two seasons, so they stopped trying. What a pity.

Laying the path
bnevs1831 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What I get from the reviews here is that people are wondering why things arent moving quicker with so few episodes left. The final episodes of a series are often viewed this way. You have to either think that the writers were out of ideas and had to make it up and it will be disappointing (like the show Lost) or that there is a plan and it will be an end of this story. As I am not one of the book readers but havent heard that the books were a dud at the end (or the series' adaptation of them, aka Game of Thrones) I choose to hope that it will end well. I feel as the colony scenes are being set up as a dry pilot for hopefully the next series.

Based on its merits alone, not the fact that I cant see where its going, this is an EXCELLENT episode. It shows the trajectory of Drummer (having had enough of Marco's BS), Philip Inaros (having fully committed himself to the cause), and the Belter nation at large headed for a reckoning.

Fantastic unlike GoT S8's rushed final season
eluryks31 December 2021
My big concern for this season was that everything would feel rushed, and honestly, maybe it is, but this episode assured me that, UNLIKE Game of Thrones' horrible last season, where there basically was no downtime for character growth/reactions/interaction, The Expanse thankfully still shows us how these characters react to character choices and new information they receive. It's not always big Hollywood blockbuster battles a la GoT S8 - no, we get to see how these events affect the characters, despite a truncated season where you would think it'd always be intense action all the time.

For example, all the scenes in the Roci - the ones between Holden & Amos, then Holden & Naomi, then Holden & Clarissa... all wonderfully written and brilliantly performed by the actors.

But besides this being mostly slow paced, the sequence with Drummer & fam getting the supplies was INTENSE, I loved it so much. That whole segment with Josep's arm... SHEESH that was BRUTAL. You could totally see how this finally pushed Camina to declare herself with the video message at the end... that was amazing.

"Don't ever feel bad about not killing someone"

Well directed, nice camerawork, there a lot of talented people on this show.

Camina Drummer.

The Expanse is a gem of Sci-Fi.

The problem with many reviews...
cmmzcfid31 December 2021
... is that they completely forget the context of and history within the show. Want examples?

Someone wrote: "nothing that can realistically change the balance of power and course of this war happened(for example, supplies that Drummer took are insufficient and obviously can't feed even 1000 people for 5 days"

Drummer doesn't just have a few supplies. Drummer has hundreds of cargo containers. A good Belter can do a lot with Cargo containers, which we know; watch this space.

"when are we going to get some battle scenes?"

This isn't Star Wars. When has the Expanse *ever* been about space battles? Yes, they happen, but in service of the plot.

"Why is the protomolecule ring still in the credits?"

Several reasons; but mostly because it's part of the system now, and the singular reason for this shift in power. In the face of something so incredible, the old hatreds still burn hot.

... also this is book six. In a series of nine books. The last three books are set 30 years after book six. So while many see a "cancelled" show, what the show runners have actually said is their taking a break.

Oh, and the story on Laconia? That's like, through a ring, bro. The Laconia thing is important.

Lastly the complaints about Marco. Marco isn't a character who turned up a season or two ago. He's had a pressence in this show since the very first episode. The Belter on the hooks for smuggling Stealth composites? That wasn't Marco in person, but it was Marco in plot. He's a fundamental part of the fabric of the story, and he's insane. He'll tear the system to pieces rather than lose.

Personally i'm very happy with S6. It's right where it should be with the source material.

Only 2 more episodes to go
Mansuritooo1 January 2022
Like some others have stated in their reviews, I'm also just watching just to get it over with. So much potential wasted on unnecessary drama, whereas the actual interesting sci fi aspect of the storyline gets little airtime.

Amazing episode
oliverjaylesser31 December 2021
One of my absolute favorites.

So far this season has given me no reason to fear the end, should it come. The character moments felt amazing and the fights were all perfect. Every word felt well placed, not one moment wasted. The casting for Duarte was also perfect. Additionally, it is nice to see that even without alex, the rocinante still feels like a home, despite that we can still feel his absence, which the show takes full advantage of.

Underwhelming
muchobliged31 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I feel that this show lost its sense of urgency. Marco and his son are weak, boring characters. Everything that involves them is dragging and repetitive. Holden has also become weak. His decision from the previous episode should've had more consequences. The dialogue between Amos and Holden was a good one, but then nothing happens? This guy is not fit for command anymore and everyone knows it, but they just go on like it's business as usual. Avasarala feels very underused, as do other characters. Only two episodes left and I should be at the edge of my seat right now, but I'm not.

Great Episode to set up the stakes for the next two
marquessarthur31 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Many reviews are basically focusing on certain details and forgetting the bigger picture/what is the entire plot line

  • note much action has happened: this is not an action packed series. It's a series about people with eventual great action

the episode pays respect to that as an episode in the aftermath of a battle. It shows how people deal with their actions. That requires great acting, and we have seen it from the belter skiff dude to Amos and Bobbie melancholy. Were there flaws? Yes, holden talking with Naomi felt urged and it didn't show how their relationship was hanging by a the line, but regardless

  • 6 episodes are to few. I concur, but I rather have 6 well written and directed episodes. Everything is been set up properly* Drummers arc to help Ceres, the Roci crew shaken and in self doubt for a final battle with Marcos, Filip and Marcos ready to fly at each others throats. There are TWO episodes left and if they do not drop the ball, it will be a great show

  • laconia opening: this is the weird bit. I can only review this when the series finishes and we find out what it is their deal.

Endless Space Opera
gregtrinh1 January 2022
On the one hand, I feel like I could watch a thousand episodes of this space opera - going nowhere, but in the beauty and the expanse of space and the endless drama between belters, earthers, martians and evolving races past the rings.

On the other hand, there's only two episodes left and the pacing is puzzling. We all remember the tragedy that was season 8 of GoT. In the back of all our minds we see another tragedy unfolding here. Season 6 of The Expanse may not be a let down on the same level, but it's hardly a fitting conclusion or any sort of ending worthy of what the first three seasons of this show promised.

What else is lacking? I miss Alex. The chemistry of the Rocinante is off. Alex isn't doing much this season. Peaches is a good addition and fills some of the void that Alex left, but it isn't enough. I'm less interested in the family drama on the Pella and I miss the tight knit atmosphere on the Roccy.

The show effectively ended last season.

It keeps going...
abysz-2302010 January 2022
... to nowhere as far I can see.

Marco character is a mess and more generic every chapter. Filip is kinda bipolar and so F annoying too.

Holden should have kill them and save millons but... "feelings". Emm... What?

Little girl arc is pure nonsense, and her acting and reactions are, wow... something else.

None plotline seems travel to an interesting ending, or an ending at all.

I have so much questions at this point... Like the hell happened to this series.

I just love this episode, and especially the direction by Anya Adams, who I knew nothing of before now. The scene with Bobbie & Amos listening & joining in with Hank Williams - absolute perfection!

Brilliant
victorson-131 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show only gets better with every series and this latest episode shows the incredible talent of script writers and actors.

While some critique this episode for being slow-paced and mostly about dialogue, this is exactly what makes it great. We peek deeper in the consequences of Marco's actions and see Philip's character forming. This is so much better than other sci-fi series precisely because it explores the very essence of human conflict and is not black and white, and trigger-happy like most Hollywood productions these days.

This show deserves more seasons and it proves it with every single episode, there is no boring moment. Love every bit of it!

Hard Hat SciFi

Just as the action slows down Naomi catches her cup falling as freefall is replaced by a burn. These underplayed moments of space physics makes the series the best Scifi since 2001: a Space Odessey.

Good episode, and this season is an improvement over previous one
85122217 November 2022
Greetings from Lithuania.

"Redoubt", the 4th episode of season 6 was better than most of the episodes in season 5. It's not a great one, but this season in general is a big improvement over season 5, I think. I really got involved into story now. But the problem with this show which is see is that there are only two episodes left at this point. With story so epic, it is clear that they are not going to finish it. There are a lot of plots were could it go, but show is simply ending. At the end of the day, it is just a TV business, I guess. But i will definitely finish now remaining 2 episodes, hope they will be great, and show will end with a bang.

Nice but underperformed
lahilaastravnar1 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First five minutes lost for the admiral rethoric to speak about his adult matters to a kid who lost is brother; the kid gives a suggestion to the admiral: really?

The Amina's crew cuts an sailor arm instead of using a lever to lift a truck.

The episode wastes time how it can, instead to use it to show any secondary story of this fantastic universe.

Frustrating
chidimeever31 December 2021
Don't get me wrong, this was not really a bad episode by itself. I mean, in the middle of a 10 episode season, this would be a good one to setup the rest of the story. But come on, we have 2 episodes out of 6 left, not for the season, but for the entire series, and there has honestly not been anything significant that has happened all season. I kinda feel like the entire season so far could be skipped and it would not really affect the story an inch. No plot movement, no crazy twists, no mind blowing action. Nothing really has changed since Season 5, just ships changing locations and lots and lots of talking. Honestly, unless the last 2 episodes are really mindblowing nonstop thrilling action, I would call this season a dud .

LOL Imagine losing to a crate
sean78745-596-48808031 December 2021
Crate 1, Arm 0. This show was pretty amazing all the way up until season 5 where Naomi spent 7 episodes sobbing in a dark room. Season 6 is ok..I guess? It's incredibly forgettable. I'm 4 episodes in and not one thing important has happened other than them letting Marco go. The set design and scale seems very cheap compared to other seasons as well.

How to destroy a superb scifi...
giulio15014 January 2022
I'm really upset about how this show is going... This is supposed to be the final season and till this 4 episode nothing important has appened from season 5 that was also a big disappoiment. It became a drama ... Where is the scifi, the politic... Only 2 episodes are left and a miracle could no more save it.

Anti-Climactic
bradyfo31 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It wasn't the best episode of this season, that's for sure, but it was above average. This episode felt like a filler episode which belongs in a proper 10-episode long season because the story wasn't advanced much at all, apart from Drummer (my favourite character) sending a message to the Belters declaring her disgust for Marco and the Free Navy. Avasarala... did she even get 3 minutes on screen? What about Bobby? The Alex mention after all that Anwar's been accused of... I mean really? I really look forward to the last episode, which is over an hour long, just hope that it's mainly Free Navy / Mars and Earth conflict and not the background for Laconia which will hopefully be covered in the next episode.

Well paced episode but leaves a lot to be desired.
traffordbage31 December 2021
This episode was really great for those who are really invested in the characters and their relationships, but at the tail end of a 6 episode final season, in the middle of war.. this was kind of disappointing. I just really want this season to go out with a bang. Season 5 had the rocks being dropped but so far this season hasn't done much. Still, people who are giving it 1s and 4s, please reconsider. This doesn't deserve such low ratings. It's well written, the world is beautiful and the sets are extremely well designed.

That alone should give it a 5/10, most shows don't even get that far.

Looking forward to the next episode. I've started reading the books and I can't recommend them enough!

Ps: for all of you complaining about it being a space opera.. its supposed to be. Even the authors have said so. This isn't star wars. If it isn't your thing, maybe its best you find a new show.

More Filler.
jp-2062 January 2022
So the woman trying to woo Marco, you just know she's off a national performance of Grease playing Rizzo. She's got it written all over her. The actor playing Filip is still absolutely terrible and everyone I watched this episode with laughed at his little speech at the end of this episode. It was so bad. Marco is in man bun mode so I have no idea what he said for most of the episode (Prince look = yelling, man bun = mumbling).

We need more Avasarala, Drummer, Bobbie, Amos, and Peaches. Space the rest. There's only two episodes left in the entire series. DO SOMETHING.
