James as partner
VetteRanger16 January 2023
From what I read from other fans of the series, they expect some laughs with every episode. For us, that isn't necessary. Not every life or every situation is prone to humor, and this episode is very much a drama.

A lady customer has sick calfs and two have already died. Neither James nor Siegfried can find a reason, though they suspect a poison is involved. When Siegfried "double checks" James' diagnosis and work without telling James first, that causes an issue.

On the other hand, James signs up to do TB tests without telling Siegfried first, and THAT causes an issue. Neither should have left the other in the dark.

Tristan has an emergency surgery, and Helen offers to straighten out the partnership's accounting.

To find out what happens with both circumstances, watch the show!

When we have a character like Siegfried, there are going to be continuing conflicts. James has been made an equal partner, but he is not treated like one. He is being pushed to the point of exhaustion. The central conflicts are, first of all, a woman who is watching her calves die from some unknown illness. She is a sad reclusive woman who has a sister she feels betrayed her. James does all the "right" things and yet the calves continue to get sick. Tests are inconclusive on the dead bodies. In a second conflict, TB seems to be a major adversary and James will need to get the farmers on his side so their herds can be innoculated.

Siegfried and...

Warning: Spoilers
Well, it's ain't Siegried and Roy, but rather Siegfried and James, and their partnership gets off to a rocky start as James wants to earn a few quid as the new partner so he investigates doing lucrative TB testing work, in the face of reservations from Siegfried.

Sophie Khan Levy guest stars as Florence Pandhi, and I wonder if she will be a love interest for Tristan with her shared enthusiasm for crosswords.

Chloe Mi Lin Ewart wrote Honeymoon's Over, with additional material provide by Ben Vanstone who's also the executive producer. The surgical procedure was quite realistic that's for sure.
