LiveWire rings in the New Year with an exciting show for you. Host Ray Tatar welcomes poets, filmmakers and film enthusiasts Wed., Jan. 8, 2020. Guests For the Love of Cinema, Status Quill Film Event and Sacramento Poet Center will be center stage on LiveWire. For the Love of Cinema welcomes filmmakers and enthusiasts as they gather together for an event, Women of Film Networking Event in Sacramento on Saturday January 18th. This free event is open to those of all ages and includes a speaker, light snacks and networking opportunities. Eleven local filmmakers connect with each other and fans at the Status Quill Film Event happening on Fri. Jan. 17. After the films are shown, the filmmakers will lead a Q and A followed by a mixer with the audience. Then, on Jan. 19 prose writers Nancy Schoellkopf and Katya Mills read selections from their books and discuss their writing journeys at the Sacramento Poetry Center.

Performed by professional actors, Stories on Stage Sacramento transforms prose and shorts stories into a production on the stage. They will be sharing information on their opening night of the 2020 season and exciting things in store this year. Locke was the only town in the United States of America built by Chinese Americans for Chinese Americans. The Locke Museums celebrates the cultural history in this unique town. The Locke Foundation is a part of the Sacramento Area Museums which is having an upcoming free museum day. Also happening is the celebration of Chinese New Year in the town of Locke.

Host Ray Tatar presents two guest. Adapted from her mother's memoir of the same name, playwright Ginger Rutland brings "When We Were Colored, A mother's Story" to the guild theater. The play examines an extraordinary journey of a black middle class family coming to California in 1952. It is examines what it was like to be the first black family in an all white neighborhood, the only "colored" girl in your class and life in Sacramento and the Nation during those times. Access Sacramento enters into its 21st A Place Called Sacramento Film Festival. Each year this begins with a Short Form Family Script Competition. Ten scripts are chosen and these film makers start their journeys creating short films to be shown in a World Premiere event on October 3, 2020. To benefit Sacramento area filmmakers special workshops by industry professionals are offered during this time.

This event featured workshops on subjects such as Storing and Preserving Family Heirlooms, Researching African American History in the California Archives and many more. Professional Documentarian and Photographer Nicka Sewell-Smith is the Key Speaker during this event on March 14th. Diana Macias from The Northern California Eggstravaganza will be joining us on Live Wire this Wednesday to talk about the upcoming event. Proceeds benefit Shriner's Children's Hospital. On March 7th and 8th experience Eggstraordinary creations from egg artists from around the globe.

Ray Tatar returns to the studios in a dynamic interview with a member of the Sacramento Artist in Residency program or (AIR) and the Sacramento Comedy Spot, a unique nonprofit that is creating a lot of exciting events and activities for the community. Sacramento Comedy Spot is a nonprofit built around comedy featuring classes, theater, videos and short films. Some of their upcoming events include Sacramento FemmeFest, a showcase and celebration of women in comedy, new comedy for the camera classes and a film festival. Sacramento Artist in Residency District 6 Representative, And Yes comes onto show to share about the launch of the program and talk about what it means for the community. Eight Artist were chosen to represent eight Sacramento City districts. Artists range from a Taiko Drummer, Visual Arts, Photographer and more.

The Food Literacy Center chats virtually with host Ray Tatar on this week's LiveWire. The Food Literacy Center will share the ways it is helping and adapting during the COVID-19 crisis. One of these adaptations includes online hands-on cooking classes. Children all over the Sacramento area are out of school and have moved to online learning. As a commitment to serving students, the Food Literacy Center has put together a free curriculum that kids can access online. The Food Literacy Center is a nonprofit that focuses on preventative health and have gathered their tools to continue the journey even through these uncertain times.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, many of us have faced challenges and had to adjust to our way of life. A group of people also adjusting to these changes are children and students. Children have had to miss their graduations and promotions, isolate from their friends and adapt to distance learning. This Wednesday, on LiveWire, we reach out to 14-year-old student and creator of the Write to Lead Program, Akshaj Mehta. Akshaj has published 4 books and is believed to be the youngest Indian American Author. Any proceeds of his books have been donated to children's charities and events he has done goes to benefit children's charities. In his passion to encourage children to write he created a website called Write to Lead which creates a platform for young writers to tell stories, critique movies, write articles and be creative. But even though Akshaj is a leader, he still has had to now "Distance Learn", isolate from friends, and watch his friends miss their graduations and promotions. Askhaj with be giving us a student perspective of the COVID-19 Pandemic Experience and also talking about Writing Spree on his Write to Lead website for students to use time creatively during this pandemic.

This week on LiveWire hosts Ray Tatar sits down for a virtual chat with Access Sacramento's Executive Director, Gary Martin. This is his first interview since he announced the call for A Place Called Sacramento scripts, which now has its 10 winners to be announced on May 20th. A lot has happened this year, starting when Master Control was flooded by a leak in the building. As Access Sacramento was working to get the Master Control restored a Stay-at-Home order was put in place by the Governor due to COVID-19. This left the doors to Access Sacramento closed to the public, but the TV and Radio stations are still needing to broadcast. There have been many adjustments to encourage people to keep creating through this new reality, which also happens to be virtual. Live Wire is being streamed, and Access Sacramento is working with FilmFestO creating an app for Cast and Crew Event called pcs.greenlit.app. Plus, on Thursday, May 7, Access Sacramento participates is the area's largest charity event: the Big Day of Giving.

It is time to get up and dance as Host Ray Tatar talks live with the Sacramento Ballet Artist Director Amy Seiwert. We will be catching up with the ballet and talking to them about what we can look forward to this summer. The Sacramento Ballet has been dancing against all the odds. Though COVID-19 caused them to cancel shows like "Soar" they continued to preserver. The ballet created a dance film called "Time of Covid" and began teaching online classes. The Sacramento Ballet will be offering a virtual summer program for youth in July and August.

Gender Health Center's (GHC) Mission is "to affect change that alleviates the systematic oppression of transgender people - especially those at the intersections of identity. We approach this work through advocacy, training, and direct services, using a social justice lens and mental health-centered model." GHC provides counseling in the Sacramento area creating access to the most under-served community including the LGBTQQI community with a focus on the "T" or Transgender. GHC also provides support groups, advocacy programs, outreach programs, and more.
